Brazosport Regional Celebrations
65th Year of Service to the Community

Originally built in 1947, Dow Magnesium Hospital was the humble beginning of Brazosport Regional. The 42 bed hospital consisted of three doctors, an operating room, emergency room, and a kitchen and dining room for the staff.

1961, Dow donated the hospital to the community and renamed it as the Community Hospital of Brazosport. Freeport Hospital agreed to merge with the Community Hospital of Brazosport in 1961. Shortly after in 1966, a new four-story, 60,000 square foot facility was built in Freeport, Texas. The $2.2 million hospital increased bed capacity to 127.

1984, Dow donated 25 acres of land and a new 165-bed hospital opened in Lake Jackson, TX as Brazosport Memorial Hospital. The new five-story, $30 million hospital offered a full range of services including surgery, imaging, labor and deliver, intensive care and many other services.

1993, Brazosport Regional Cancer Center opened as a full service multidisciplinary cancer center providing top quality radiation and chemotherapy services. They offer preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic strategies to adults and geriatrics.

2006, BMH decided to change their name to Brazosport Regional Health System and opened a new 26,000 square foot addition that created a modern space for the Dow Women’s Center, a new diagnostic imaging area with cutting-edge technology and an interventional Cardiac Cath Lab.

2007, Brazosport Regional opened their first Urgent Care Center, which provides unscheduled, urgent, non life threatening medical care for patients that need immediate assistance. In addition, Outpatient Rehabilitation and Occupational Health opened their newly remodeled building.

2008, Brazosport Regional breaks ground for new 2,200 square foot Family Medicine Center for the community of Brazoria and breaks ground on an expansion and renovation of the Brazosport Regional Cancer Center.

Currently, Brazosport Regional includes over 100 board-certified physicians and nearly 700 highly-qualified employees.
