Local Hand Therapist Receives 2008 Shining Star Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Society of Hand Therapist
Congratulations to Peggy Boineau, OTR, CHT, Hand Therapist at Brazosport Regional Outpatient Rehabilitation Services for receiving the 2008 Shining Star Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT). Boineau joined Brazosport Regional Health System last October as a Certified Hand Therapist who provides specialized rehabilitation of the hand and arm.
This award acknowledged Boineau for her extensive involvement with both the national and Texas Chapter of ASHT. She served as a member of the education division for 10 years and recently served as the Education Division Director of ASHT. In addition, she was on the Board of Directors of Texas ASHT for four consecutive years and President for three years. Boineau is currently the Vice President of ASHT. The award also recognized Boineau for her continued leadership and volunteerism that helps promote hand therapy.
The Shining Star Award originated when an editor of the Journal of Hand Therapy wrote an editorial column about how shining stars in hand therapy were decreasing. He proclaimed that there was not enough volunteering and leadership to move the profession of hand therapy forward. In response to his column, the Texas Chapter of ASHT implemented the Shining Star Award six years ago to recognize individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the hand therapy field.
Boineau was nominated and voted on by the Board of Directors of the Texas ASHT. “Peggy has been a wonderful asset for our organization,” stated Lauren Bowles, Director of Outpatient Rehabilitation Services. “She is 100% committed to her profession and her patients; I feel fortunate to have her on my rehab team.” Please join Brazosport Regional in congratulating Boineau on her recent achievement.
